On Sunday, we attended a great little schooling show hosted by Glenoaks in Portola Valley. Admittedly, I was a little nervous taking eight horses by myself to a schooling show down the street. Luckily it was a short drive and I'm getting very comfortable with my four horse trailer!
We packed up and loaded around 6:15am with the second load going over about an hour later. Everyone was on in time for a morning warm up at 8am. After a quick school, the ones who needed lunging were lunged and the rest went back to eat breakfast.
The day trucked along almost seamlessly. We had quite a few volunteer helpers that really made my life a million times easier. I got to focus on the riders in the arena and not worry about what was going on at the barn.
I'm not going to go into all the details of each round but I am going to say that I was incredibly proud of how well everyone did. I wasn't so much proud of the ribbons but rather the horsemanship and sportsmanship that all my riders displayed. When the horses were getting tired in the afternoon, all my students opted to save their horses for the next show instead of do that one last round. And even though many were competing in the same classes, they were all very supportive of each other and their successes. Everyone improved over the course of each round and we have lots of homework to do before our next outing.
I was also incredibly proud of everyone's self-sufficiency. While we may need to work a little on figuring out how to stay clean in a dusty environment, everyone was on and correctly dressed on time. The volunteers and parents were all so very helpful and I'm grateful for everyone's support. I had a great time even though I was dead exhausted by the end!
